Gambit is a free tool for playing and studying chess. Please read the following so you know what to expect.

In short: Gambit is provided as is, for practice and entertainment. Its suggestions are a helpful guide, not a guarantee, and you use it at your own risk.

Provided "as is"

Gambit is offered free of charge, without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied. We do not promise that the app will be uninterrupted, error-free, or available at all times, and we may change or discontinue features at any time.

Not professional advice

The evaluations, suggested moves, and analysis Gambit shows are generated by a computer engine for learning and entertainment. They may be incomplete or incorrect, and they are not a substitute for your own judgment or for professional coaching. Difficulty levels are approximations of engine strength and will vary from game to game.

Position recognition

The "Scan a board" feature uses AI to read a position from an image. It can misread pieces, squares, or whose turn it is. Always check the imported position before relying on it.

Third-party services

Gambit relies on independent services and open-source projects, including the Stockfish engine, the chess.js and chessboard.js libraries, Google Gemini Vision, and Lichess. We do not control these services and are not responsible for their availability, accuracy, content, or policies.

External links

Where Gambit links to other websites, those sites are not under our control. We are not responsible for their content or practices.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Gambit and its maintainers are not liable for any loss or damage arising from your use of, or inability to use, the app, including any reliance on its analysis or on third-party services.
