These terms cover your use of Gambit. They are meant to be fair and simple: play freely, play fairly, and understand that the app comes with no guarantees.
Acceptance
By using Gambit, you agree to these terms, our Disclaimer, and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the app.
Using Gambit
Gambit is free for personal, non-commercial use. You may play, practice, and analyze positions as much as you like. Please do not attempt to disrupt, overload, reverse-engineer for malicious purposes, or otherwise misuse the app or the services it connects to.
Your keys and tokens
Some optional features ask you to provide your own credentials, such as a Google Gemini API key or a Lichess token. These remain in your browser and are your responsibility. You agree to keep them secure and to follow the terms of those providers when you use their services through Gambit.
Intellectual property and attributions
The Gambit name, branding, and original design are the property of their maintainers. Gambit also stands on the shoulders of excellent open-source work, used under their respective licenses:
- chess.js by Jeff Hlywa, for move generation and rules.
- chessboard.js by Chris Oakman, for the board UI.
- Stockfish, the open-source chess engine.
- Roboto Mono font and Lucide icons.
No warranty and limitation of liability
Gambit is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind. To the fullest extent permitted by law, the maintainers are not liable for any loss or damage arising from your use of the app. Please see the Disclaimer for details.

We may update these terms from time to time. When we do, we will revise the date at the top of this page. Continued use after a change means you accept the updated terms.
